Leadership in eco- design
More than 80% of the environmental impact of both rail vehicles and aircraft is determined at the design stage, so our EcoDesign approach is a keystone of our product development.
Through this approach, we are also making further advancements to eliminate hazardous materials, use energy efficiently, and ensure the recyclability and recoverability of our products at the end of their useful life. Our vision is for all new products to be 100% recoverable.
Performance built on safety
Providing safe and reliable products is at the heart of everything we do, and integral to the product safety culture we are embedding across the organization.
Our Design for Safety approach guides us to ensure we evaluate and address the safety of our products throughout their lifecycle. We apply rigorous testing prior to entry-into-service, supported by our Product Safety Policy and management system.
Technologically advanced solutions
We are evolving our products with new capabilities driven by big data and cloud computing to enable real-time monitoring and remote handling. Through R&D projects, we are developing more electric aircraft systems and studying autonomous flight capabilities by testing advanced aircraft configurations.
In rail, we are designing interconnected and integrated transportation systems with smarter sensors to provide better predictive insights on fleet operation.

Leveraging new technologies
The new TALENT 3 battery electric multiple unit (BEMU) is a technological response to challenges such as air pollution, smog and climate change. It is the first modern battery–powered train to enter passenger service in Europe with significant carbon reduction, increased recyclability and 100% regenerative electric breaking to charge batteries.
For more than 20 years, Bombardier has held its annual Safety Standdown—a knowledge-based aviation safety training program that aims to make aviation safer for the industry. The program is offered at no cost to all aviation professionals, regardless of the equipment they operate. Originally conceived in 1996, the program quickly expanded beyond an annual seminar into a year-round program that continues to tackle aviation safety risks. To date, almost 10,000 corporate, commercial and military aviation professionals have attended Safety Standdown seminars in person, and thousands more via webcast around the world.
In 2018, we hosted our Safety Standdown in Wichita, Kansas and featured 24 new workshops focusing on current trends driving aviation safety, including fatigue management, upset prevention and recovery aerodynamics.
